A workshop was held in Skopje about the process of reaching a model to finance a station for the treatment of wastewater, Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said. Among the presented documents were the report on the analysis of public–private partnership (PPP) and recommended options, replies to the comments on the technical report and design, and the environmental impact assessment of a treatment station.

Minister Bashkim Ameti said the event focused on issues which affect integration of budget funds on national and local levels, and also private funds, loans from international financing institutions and the possible support from the European Commission through Instruments of Pre-accession Assistance (IPA).

At the workshop, the most common models of PPP in the area of wastewater treatment were presented. An analysis of risks for each model was laid out. The goal is to select a model which will provide the greatest quality for the most reasonable price, with smaller expenses than for services in the public sector.

The event, organized within the frame of the project of producing a study on the construction of a wastewater station for Macedonia’s capital, was also attended by mayor Koce Trajanovski and French ambassador  Laurence Auer.
