Five companies have been shortlisted from 11 that applied in a tender for the selection of a private partner to cooperate with the City of Belgrade in the rehabilitation of Vinča landfill and the construction of a waste management facility where heat and power will be generated, portal Novosti.rs reported. The firms are going to the next round of the tender, and the goal is to select one company, stated the Secretariat for Environmental Protection.

The plan is to obtain all building permits by the end of next year in order to complete the works and start utilizing the station by the end of 2019. The facility will be converting waste into electricity and heat that will be fed to the district heating system, said the secretariat, stressing every type of waste that can be recycled will be reused, for example by composting.

The landfill will receive inert waste which does not harm the environment, like ashes, according to the statement, where the capital city’s body notes the goal for Vinča project is to make it as cheap as possible.
