The Ministry of Economy and the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for Sustainable Energy Development in Macedonia.

The memorandum was signed by Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi and President of MANU, academician Taki Fiti.

“The aim of the memorandum is to establish cooperation and an efficient institutional dialogue, considering the interests of Macedonian citizens, in order to achieve sustainable development in accordance with the obligations arising from the international agreements signed by Macedonia,” the Ministry of Economy said in a statement.

Under the memorandum, the two institutions are to undertake joint activities in analyzing the development of the country’s energy sector, increasing the share of renewable energy sources, implementing the latest global practices and modern scientific knowledge, as well as analyzing the obligations of Macedonia under international agreements in the field of energy and greenhouse gas emissions.

The partnership also applies to computer science and IT, as well as economic growth and development, including models for stimulating the development and restructuring of the economy.

The collaboration will include the preparation of research projects, organization of meetings, joint lectures, and round tables for professionals, but also for stakeholders and the general public, with the participation of civil society organizations and the media. The two institutions will demonstrate the results of cooperation at international and domestic expert meetings and publish scientific papers in international and domestic journals. Information on joint activities and results will be published on the websites of the Ministry of Economy and the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
