The state power utilities of Montenegro and the Republic of Srpska have held a meeting to discuss, among other topics, the launch of construction on hydropower plant (HPP) Sutorina.
In their first working meeting in several years, the EPCG board of directors and the ERS management discussed opportunities to improve cooperation with a view to increasing the efficiency and profitability of the respective electricity systems of Montenegro and the Republic of Srpska, the two companies said in a statement following the talks at the EPCG headquarters in Nikšić.
The discussions also covered a joint assessment of water resources for energy purposes and how they can be utilized to improve water supply in parts of the Montenegrin coastal region.
The talks also covered options to better utilize the potential of the Trebišnjica river
The two companies also considered options for a better utilization of the hydro potential of the Trebišnjica river, with EPCG representatives taking the opportunity to reopen discussions on the HPP Sutorina project.
Project documents for the hydropower plant already exist, as well as the necessary studies, but they need to be updated and adapted to the latest standards in the energy sector, the two companies said.
There is great potential for green energy projects, but only if the two companies work together
Representatives of EPCG and ERS agreed that there is great potential for the development of renewable energy facilities, but that some of it is impossible to realize unless the two companies work together.
With this meeting, which comes after a hiatus of several years, EPCG and ERS have re-established their cooperation, the two companies said in the statement.
