The authorities of Prijepolje, the municipality in the Southwest Serbia, has launched a project to replace old lighting which is expected to be done by the end of the year. The new LED lighting will be installed by a consortium consisting of two Serbian and one Slovenian companies.

The contract for the purchase and installation of LED lights and light equipment in Prijepolje was signed on August 15. The installation of new lighting was entrusted through public procurement procedure to the companies Javna raszvetljava from Ljubljana, Minel-Schreder from Belgrade and Elektrovolt from Valjevo..

Sales Director at Minel-Schreder, Nenad Plazincic, told Balkan Green Energy News that preparatory work is now under way, and that the work should start in September. He added that new lighting is expected to be installed by the end of the year, that is by mid-December, if the weather conditions allow it.

The project foresees replacement of 2,700 street lights, and it is worth around EUR 49,000 without VAT.

It will be financed from the municipal budget. Plazincic said that thanks to the ESCO model the funds that were allocated in the budget for the maintenance of old lighting and electricity costs now can be used for repayments. The contract provides possibility of repayment in 36 monthly installments.

He added maintenance costs would be reduced by 70 percent.
